L’Arche Shop redecoration continued…

L’Arche Shop redecoration continued…

Agnes (RPS member) and Paul (L’Arche staff) started early on Saturday – I turned up several hours late as neighbours decided to have a rave 🙁

They removed all the stock left in the shop and dismantling shelves… so many staples in everything… when I finally arrived I pulled out a few staples as Agnes was hanging from the ceiling removing several hundred of the things but I really didn’t do much, just watched really.

On Monday I did manage to remove several more hundred from the shelves and I think I missed some… still found more on the window area on Tuesday… seriously… someone needs banning from the staple gun. I understand, I really do, I would love a staple gun!

I’ve received reports today that the painting is now done and we are just waiting for fitted shelving to be organised, cut and fixed before they get painted… plus the inside window could be removed soon – fingers crossed as I think that will help transform the small shop.

I doubt Saturday will have any decorating done as it’s L’Arche Garden Open Day 12-5pm and L’Arche staff will be busy – a few RPS members plan to go and Elaine (Bunting & Pops) husband will be there with his band, I will also be going as I want to take photos! (Lenny – RunnyCustard) – The Stitch session will be held in the workshops so there’s plenty to see this weekend!

Shop Closing for Redecoration – L’Arche & RPS Shop West Norwood

The Rock Paper Scissor members and the staff at L’Arche London will be redecorating the shop/foyer of the West Norwood branch.

We start this weekend – 29th August and hope to get most of the work done over the bank holiday and following week.

We plan to have a relaunch VIP party on the 1st October so please keep an eye for that as we will have wine, nibbles and cake – yay!

A huge thank you to the following people for their contributions:

Ivana on twitter @ivanabasicactor – responded to my tweet for paint donations and dropped of some white paint and a couple of brushes

Bzz Garage logo

Wayne from West Norwood Bzz Garage – responded to our Facebook plea and will supply us with five pots of white paint.

Diverse Logo

Anita from Diverse Gifts gave us some very long (and heavy) floating shelves to use and went to great lengths (no pun intended) to get them.

We could do with some carpet but I’m guessing we are too late for that! hint hint 🙂

Before photos of the shop area:

I will be taking photos during and after too 🙂

South Norwood Community Festival – Photos of the Day

The day started off with rain and many stalls didn’t turn up but the sun came out and most of us went home burnt!

Whilst most people enjoyed the music, sunshine and the rather nice breezes, the stall holders had to cling to their work to stop it flying away.

This blog post is also featured on RunnyCustard’s main blog – photo copyright Lenny Carter – RunnyCustard.co.uk

Here’s the ladies standing still and NOT pole dancing!!!

South Norwood Community Festival

Sunday, 5th July 2015 – 11am to 7pm

South Norwood Recreation Ground

South Norwood Community Festival is a free family event a few minute’s walk from Norwood Junction station.

Organised by volunteers to raise money for local charities, SNCF 2015 has a fun fair, music of all kinds, food of every description, and a varied programme of events.

SNCF builds on last year’s successful festival in the park with local legends Boston Brew, Birdogg, Ruby Red, Famous Last Words and Blues Hammer performing, along with another dozen or so bands on the main ‘Roger Piner’ stage.

There is also a second stage, DJ zone, arts and crafts stalls, a wide variety of food and of course a beer tent. We would like to thank all of the local businesses and sponsors who make this event possible.

This festival is for EVERYONE, it’s free, and it’s friendly. (quote from website)

Lenny from RunnyCustard & RunnyCustardMakes will be bringing a selection of oddball furry creatures as well as some illustration & photographic prints.

    Bill Hull
    Freelance Photographer & Visual Designer

When I started in photography, large format plate and rostrum sheet film cameras were normal in studios. I processed and printed (darkroom work) with such formats, in my personal and freelance work I’ve used 35mm SLR’s and large format 6×6 cm twin-lens film cameras. I am familiar with both old and new techniques. Manipulation and enhancement in the past was completed in darkrooms and or as screen prints, but nowadays I use DSLR’s and digital applications, such as Adobe’s Creative Suite – PhotoShop, Illustrator; Lightroom, Affinity – Photo/Design, etc.

For more than forty years, I have been working as a photographer in London, England, a location that is reflected in my work. I try to capture my part of the world as I observe it and sometimes play with the results (retouch, enhance and manipulate images). I presently sell my work as prints (enlargements) and greetings cards to local businesses including, for example, giftware shops, florists, bookshops and art framers in London at locations of Clapham, Dulwich, Herne Hill and Brixton together with distribution throughout the UK and internationally to offices and homes in the USA and Australia.

      Speciality work includes

      • Product placement studio pack-shots (still-life); studio location food photography/videos; studio location portraits
      • Public relations (PR)
      • Digital image manipulation; processing; retouching; enhancements
      • Teaching photography
      • Land/City/Sea and Waterscapes

      Other skills

      • Typography;
      • DTP/design & scanning;
      • Information technology on Macs
      • Screen printing
      • Pre/post-production video camera & editing

In my work as a commercial freelance food photographer/video cameraman, I contributed to the publishers Thomson and Cengage, for their Professional Chef and Food & Beverage Services range of books and online videos. I have also taught photography and darkroom skills to others, running courses that demystify photography and simplifying the developing process to all ages and abilities.

Rock Paper Scissors and L’Arche London

Rock Paper Scissors and L’Arche London

Makerhood and The Open Works came together with a community project which was called Rock Paper Scissors London!

A group of people from various walks of life that loved, Art, Design, and handmade Crafts who hope to learn and sell their work in highstreet shops.

The Open Works was a Lambeth Council project where they helped people set up their own projects from The Stitch (craft group), Bzz Garage (Bee friendly community gardening), Trade School (free skill sharing), Public Office (for freelancers!), Library of Things and many more.

The Open Works has now come to an end after their year long project but all the groups are still going and you can join them anytime or even pop in to visit 🙂

            The Cooperative Council

For the last three years Lambeth Council has been the Cooperative Council.

The aim of the Cooperative Council is to forge a new relationship with citizens, placing local residents at the heart of all its work to make Lambeth a good place to live.

Staff across the council have been converting the principles of the Cooperative Council into practice, from large scale policy changes … through to smaller mechanisms that make the council function well.

An important part of Coop Council fulfilling its ambitions, is to make significant improvements in how local residents can prosper in their everyday lives.  We believe that in order to build a sustainable future for our communities – socially, economically and environmentally – we need to go much further than efficient services.
